Carl Heine

Born in Seattle, Carl Heine has been a church musician and composer of sacred music since adolescence. He has served as organist and music director in six congregations in four states: Washington, Minnesota, California and Illinois. He is currently the director of music at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Oak Park, Illinois and a member of ASCAP. As a music major Carl studied organ, composition and choral conducting at the University of Washington, Seattle.

In addition to a BA in Music, Carl has earned three degrees in the field of education including an MA from Wheaton College and a PhD from the University of Chicago where his research focused on intrinsic motivation (flow) and learning. After working as a program director at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, Carl retired in 2018 and now devotes a greater share of his time to composition and leading worship.
